Some of your favorite beauty brands are putting their money where their heartfelt Instagram posts are. They’re donating in the name of Black Lives Matter.
Birthed after the 2014 police killing of Micheal Brown, the Black Lives Matter movement was, sadly, given new life by the murders of Ahmaud Arberry, Breona Taylor and George Floyd.
The viral video of George’s death sent thousands to the streets to protest the racialized policing and brutality of much of America’s local law enforcement. Many continue to voice their support for the Black community and demand change from elected officials.
Perhaps inspired by the activism of the diverse beauty community, many brands have donated money to various social justice, community organizing and Black LGBTQ+ organizations.
By our count more than 60 beauty brands have pledged to donate.
Read on to see which brands are donating a publicly disclosed amount to anti-racist organizations.
Sephora
“We are proud to have given more than $1M to support organizations in our communities like National Cares Mentoring Movement, Center for Urban Families, the national NAACP, The National Black Justice Coalition, and The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation Black Women’s Roundtable, who are building up Black communities and leading the fight for racial justice and equity,” read an Instagram caption by the brand.
As of June 1, Sephora Beauty Insider members can redeem points in the form of a donation to the National Black Justice Coalition. Instead of makeup products, 500 points can be redeemed as a $10 donation, 1,000 points for $20, and 1,500 points for $30.
